Fear of rejection: where it comes from and how to work with it

The short answer

Fear of rejection is usually old protection: a part of you that learned that being left out was dangerous. You don't beat it by forcing yourself. You calm it by meeting it in the body, then taking a small step anyway.

Why it happens

Fear of rejection shows up as avoiding, overthinking, people-pleasing or never making the first move.

It is not weakness. It is a part of you trying to protect you from pain it has felt before.

The goal is not to never feel it. The goal is that it stops making your decisions.

Higher self check-in

  1. Name the situation you are afraid of in one sentence.
  2. Imagine the calmest, wisest version of you standing next to you.
  3. Find where the fear sits in your body.
  4. Let your higher self say: "I'm here. You don't have to handle this alone."
  5. Then choose one small step, from that calmer place.
